Cafe Beacons at Cannes Lions 2026: What Happens When an AI Teammate Shows Up in Real Life

How a coffee stand on Creator Beach turned into Beacons' IRL introduction of our AI teammate to the creator economy — and what it means for the creators and brands who weren't there.

Most of what creators and brands experience from an AI company is a login screen. A chat window. A product update in your inbox. Useful, probably efficient — but invisible in the way software tends to be invisible. You use it and move on.

At Cannes Lions 2026, we made Beacons visible. We built a working cafe on Creator Beach — iced coffee, a growing pile of merch that people actually fought over, and Beam, our AI teammate, showing up as a character for the first time in his life.

That bet — that the best way to build trust in an AI product is to get out from behind the screen — is what this activation was really about. Cafe Beacons was the experiment. Here's what we learned running it, and why we think it says something bigger about where the creator economy is headed in 2026.

The bet: showing up in person at Cannes Lions 2026

Maybe building a coffee shop to promote our AI teammate wasn’t the most intuitive activation. But our team had a vision: Beacons helps creators run their business, so the most honest way to introduce it was to actually be useful and actually be there, in the middle of the one week a year when the entire creator economy sits on the same stretch of sand.

Cafe Beacons ran daily during Cannes Lions, right at the entrance to Creator Beach. The Beacons team on the ground there quickly noticed the patterns in how visitors interacted: the coffee (iced coffee!) gave people a reason to come back more than once. Repeat visits turned into repeat conversations, and repeat conversations turned into ideas, next steps, and follow up calls.

Making merch creators actually wanted to keep

Our goal was to design Cafe Beacons like a lifestyle brand people would want to be seen wearing even after Cannes ended. The French Riviera inspired capsule — bucket hats, tote bags, paper fans, croissant-shaped charms, custom cup sleeves in a yellow you could spot from across the beach — was built for that job first. We wanted this to be the antithesis of boring corporate merch.

It showed. The bucket hats sold out by day four, even with a shipping delay that kept them off the table on day one. The fans were gone by day three, useful enough in the Riviera heat that people wore them all week. The totes disappeared by the final day. The croissant charm turned into its own small phenomenon, with people coming back to grab more for friends and family members who weren’t there.

And then there was Beam, Beacons’s AI teammate for creators. Bucket hat, croissant illustration, a very specific south-of-France vibe — he was the face of the whole activation. Midway through the week, a plush Beam briefly went missing from the café. What started as a shrug turned into a full narrative arc across our Stories and the founders' feeds: "BEAM HAS BEEN TAKEN," with people tracking the saga and stopping by the café daily for updates. The team embraced the spontaneous moments and opportunities for content that came from building a character people cared about.

What we heard about the creator economy

The conversations were the real product of the week, and a few of them will shape what we build next. A session with L'Oréal and Meta shared data showing AI-assisted creator selection driving nearly 2x the brand lift of standard benchmarks, with micro and nano creators now accounting for close to half of total influencer impact. The industry is aligned with what Beacons has been building.

Zoom out from our café, and the same themes were echoing across the entire festival — probably the closest thing to a set of Cannes Lions 2026 creator marketing takeaways you'll find in one place. More than 250 creators showed up across official Cannes Lions programming this year, the most in the festival's history, and the dedicated creator track moved out of a side venue into the main festival footprint, sitting alongside the brand marketers and platform leads for the first time. The industry's own framing shifted too, from talking about what AI could eventually do to talking about what it's actually delivering right now. The Lions winners this year leaned into creators as strategic partners with real equity in the outcome. And more than one recap of the week landed on the same idea: as AI becomes part of the daily texture of work, trust and human connection turn into the scarce, valuable thing.

That's the bet Cafe Beacons made, too.

Why this matters beyond Cannes Lions 2026

Here's the thread tying all of it together, and it's the reason we're already planning for 2027. We believe AI companies are going to compete on the world built around their product — the community, the taste, the real-world moments that make a platform feel like a place you belong. Cafe Beacons was our first real rep at building that, and we're already planning the next one.

Beam met a lot of people for the first time this week, as a character that exists even beyond the product. The introduction that actually matters is this: Beam is the AI teammate built into Beacons, built to run the parts of your creator business that shouldn't eat your whole week — content, outreach, brand deals, the operational stuff that gets in the way of the actual creative work.

If you're a creator: this is your invitation to meet Beam properly. Sign up for Beacons and put an AI teammate to work on the busywork of running your business, inside the same all-in-one platform creators are already using to manage their links, their media kits, and their brand relationships in one place.

If you're a brand: the creators we met on Creator Beach are exactly who you're trying to reach — real operators, media-kit-ready, already building audiences AI can't fake. Beacons for Brands is where you find and build campaigns with them directly, without the layers a traditional agency adds in between.
